Saskatoon Roller Derby League is hosting tryouts in Saskatoon the Weekend of February 11th and 12th. We are looking for female skaters ages 19+ as well as referees male or female ages 21+. If you are interested in strapping on some skates, please head to our events page or check us out on facebook, for full details.

Saturday November 12th the SRDL Killa’ Bees will be taking on the Redneck Betties from Swift Current in the 3rd bout of the 2011-2012 season entitled S*M*A*S*H, a tribute to our military. SRDL is now happy to announce the addition of MORE DERBY at this bout! At 5pm an exhibition scrimmage between mixed teams of SRDL skaters and derby girls from the many out-of-town leagues will take place and consist of two 20-minute halves. Doors will open to the public at 4pm. Your S*M*A*S*H ticket will get you in for both events, we hope to you out for a full night of derby!

SRDL is also excited to feature a special half-time show with the members of the Saskatoon Longboarding UnderGround who will be having a longboard race. Escape Sports will be having a draw to win a longboard with entry forms at their merch table. Don’t forget to get your name in and check out their wares!

A reminder that this bout is dedicated to Canada’s military personnel. We are very lucky to have Raphael Mercier playing the bagpipes as part of the experience. SRDL will be taking collections for the Royal Canadian Legion at the door, please contribute what you can to this worthy cause.

Voodoo Vixens do it again!

The Voodoo Vixens won the “Super Storm” bout on October 1st, edging out the Parole Models by 20 points. Thanks to all the fans who came out! The intraleague teams will be taking a short break, as SRDL is proud to host the Redneck Betties from Swift Current, SK who will play the SRDL Killa’ Bees in an interleague challenge on November 12 at Praireland Park. Hope to see you out cheering on your hometown girls!

Voodoo Vixens take Big Bang Derby

The premier game of the intraleague season turned out to be a very evenly matched and awesome to watch game, final score Voodoo Vixens (black) 146 to Parole Models (red) 135. More Saskatoon roller derby action happening October 1st — not to be missed!

AUGUST 8TH — SRDL Referee Info Night

Interested in getting involved with derby, but don’t thing bouting is for you? We’re looking for both men and women 18 years of age or older to join our crew of refs. On Monday, August 8th at 8:30pm SRDL will be holding an info night at the Granite Curling Club (480 1st Ave. North). Referees are an important part of our league and you will be a valued member of the team. No experience is required (we’ll even teach you how to skate).

Busy summer for SRDL

The ladies (and a few gentlemen) of SRDL have been hard at work this summer. Aside from lots of practice the Mindfox proudly represented SRDL at the Western Championships in Kelowna, and the Killa’ Bees played a heck of a game against the St. Albert Holy Rollers in July. SRDL is going to be sending a team to Regina August 20th to play the PBDC Sugar Skulls. There have also been boot camps and invitational scrimmages galore!

On July 27th the newest members of the league put the last several months of hard work to the test in a scrimmage against the Killa’ Bees and helped prove that this upcoming season is going to be one heck of a good time for skaters and fans alike! The newly elected board is working hard to get dates and times hammered out, so check back soon for the 2011-2012 schedule.

SRDL has chosen to support the cause against domestic abuse this year with a fundraising campaign that includes a slogan concept and design by a Dutch derby girl, “I Choose When To Get Bruised ©”.
